sunshine & snow & shift keys

so i'm not very good at this blogging thing yet. i'll be honest, i'm a bit hesitant when it comes to posting my thoughts on the worldwide web for any and all to see. it's a level of transparency i'm just not sure about yet. i'm used to journalling in my own private little notebook, thoughts unseen by the rest of the world, so journalling to me is really laying it all out on the line, no holding back. i've gleaned that blogging isn't really the same as my interpretation of journalling, and so i need to learn to adjust (something to which i do not warm to quite easily either!) and just write some surfacey things to get used to it.

so how has my week been? in a word: busy. not helping matters is the fact that i needed to spend a large quantity of time on my laptop typing away working on various projects, and my 'shift' key isn't working properly (hence no capitalized letter 'i's in this posting). have you ever stopped to think how much you take your shift key for granted? i use mine ALOT. especially when i'm using my outlook mail at work because, for some reason or another, my email on this computer, unlike outlook mail i've had on other computers, doesn't use MS Word as it's default editor. so... it held me up quite a bit yesterday and today... or so it felt at least.

we also had a snowstorm. again. i am beginning to really wonder about this wonderful ontario weather i keep hearing about. so far since i've lived here the past 20 months, we've experienced a lot of 'unseasonably strange' weather-- an exceptionally wet and gloomy end of summer and beginning of fall our first 3-4 months, including a loss of something like 30 hours of sunshine in a three week period (not what a prairie girl needs!). a very dry summer this past year-- and not overly warm either. record snowfall for february. crazy cold temperatures in December and January that left me reminiscing about days in saskatchewan.

though as i type all that, i realize that i don't really mind it at all. when it snows out here, the clouds dissipate and the sun shines again. the sun is like some kind of miracle drug to me, and lifts my spirits in a way that i can't even describe. i would have it snow every week just to have that sun come out and pour its rays down on us. i'd even learn to get out and shovel the driveway from time to time so corwin didn't have to always do it.

and that's another thing--the snow taught me this week that i really take my guy and all he does for granted. shoveling snow is HARD! my back is so achy, and i only did the easy parts! i don't know what women who don't have someone to help them shovel their driveways do when the snow comes. i would certainly understand if they took the lack of sunshine for no snow. it also made me want to lend corwin out. anyone need their snow shoveled? =o) actually, he did have his fair share of shoveling this week, so i shouldn't auction him off just yet. he also had to help his cousin who lives with us dig her car out. for some reason, the neighbor across the street from us decided he could use his snowblower to clear people's driveways and sidewalks. it's really a nice gesture, but not for us since there's an invisible line he doesn't cross to come to our side of the street, and certainly not for tracy who was parked in front of his house. he left a 4-foot pile of snow behind her car, and a 2.5-foot pile in front of her car. top it off with a couple of runs by with the snow plow, and the neighbor boy adding shovelfuls to the pile as he cleared the drift from in front of his driveway and you've got a big problem. i was glad we only had enough shovels for the two of them cause i don't think my back could have taken it.

so that's the excitement of my week. nothing major. but some things to remember. with some practice and inspiration from the blogs of friends, one day i might grow up to be a better blogger too. until then, i'll end with a list of the simple things from this week:
  1. beautiful sunshiny days
  2. friends bearing st. patty's day sugar cookies
  3. unexpected emails & phone calls from old friends
  4. new friends who send text messages & pray for me
  5. a comfy bed to crawl into
and with that, i'm off to hit the sack.
